The IYPT 2026 in Zurich offers a week filled with physics, culture, and unforgettable experiences. Beyond the competition itself, participants will enjoy a program designed to foster international friendships.
Sunday — Opening Night
The IYPT 2026 kicks off with an outdoor welcome dinner. This relaxed garden party sets the tone for the week ahead, giving participants, team leaders, and jurors the chance to meet in an informal setting before the competition begins.
Monday — Opening Ceremony
The tournament officially begins at ETH Zurich with the Opening Ceremony, marking the start of an exciting week of physics fights. The ceremony includes the traditional drawing of lot. Held at one of the world's leading universities for science and technology, the setting reflects the academic spirit at the heart of the IYPT.

Tuesday — Private Boat Tour
Take an evening off from the competition and enjoy a unique private dinner cruise on the Lake of Zurich. Participants can take in panoramic views of the city, the surrounding hillsides, and the distant Alpine peaks — all while sharing a meal.
Thursday — Excursion to the Alps
No visit to Switzerland is complete without a trip to the Alps, and this excursion delivers exactly that. Participants will ride the world's steepest funicular railway up to Stoos, a car-free mountain village perched high above Lake Lucerne. Once at the top, there's time to soak in the sweeping mountain views or set off on a hike through the Alpine landscape.

Saturday — Final and Farewell Party
The final day of the IYPT 2026 brings the week to a thrilling close. The morning begins with the Grand Final, which will also be streamed live for viewers around the world. Following the award ceremony, participants gather for the Farewell Party at Micas Garten, a vibrant outdoor venue in Zurich. The evening features street food from around the globe alongside a barbecue — a fitting celebration to cap off an unforgettable week of international physics competition.
